The Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company S.A.O.C. was established pursuant to Royal Decree No. 131/2020, issued on 9 December 2020, concerning the water and wastewater sector. Article One of the decree stipulated that the Oman Wastewater Services Company S.A.O.C. shall assume responsibility for water and wastewater sector activities in all governorates of the Sultanate, except the Dhofar Governorate.


In implementation of the transformation programme approved by the Oman Investment Authority, the company received the assets and responsibilities assigned to it from the Public Authority for Water on 1 June 2021.


The company was granted an exclusive concession to develop, design, implement, operate, and maintain potable water and wastewater facilities in all governorates of the Sultanate, except the Dhofar Governorate. It is a closed joint-stock Omani company, registered in accordance with the Commercial Companies Law of the Sultanate of Oman.


This company is considered one of the Nama Group companies, which was established as a result of restructuring the electricity and related water services sector in 2004. The group commenced its operations in the sector on 1 May 2005, providing services related to the generation, transmission, distribution, supply, and purchase of electricity, as well as associated water services within the Sultanate.
